Windows 10 Anniversary may impact Microsoft .NET 3.5 preventing access to Sage 50 Accounts

PROBLEM:

Following Microsoft’s recent Windows 10 Anniversary update, some Sage customers have reported that they are unable to log in to Sage 50 Accounts after installing the update.

This may cause one of the following errors or issues:

  • The message 'You have entered an invalid password' appears
  • The message 'Unable to register datasource' appears
  • Sage Accounts freezes on the splash window or the splash screen flashes and disappears - this is the window that appears as the software opens.

SOLUTION:

Opening Sage Accounts v21+ shows 'Queue.dta is in use' or hangs or closes on the splash window

Ocassionally when opening Sage 50 (right after isntalling it) the following error message will appear:

 

Queue.dta is in use

Please wait until this file is avaiable.

 

This happens if the Sage Data Service doesn't have full access to your data files, or if your data is stored on a path in any of the following locations:

Update - Sage 50 Accounts 2012 Update 3 and Sage 50 Accounts 2013 Update 2 - Failed to update file

 

When installing Sage 50 Accounts 2012 Update 3 or Sage 50 Accounts 2013 Update 2, the following error message may appear:

'Failed to update file C:\Program Files\Common Files\Sage Line50\SGXLLINE50ADDIN.dll. Do you wish to continue with the update?'

 

 

This message appears because Microsoft Excel is open when installing the update.

Unable to register data source; report designer problem

After installing Sage and attempting to launch the program for the first time you may encounter this error:

"Sage 50 unable to register data source; report designer problem"

This error causes issues when running reports (sage will crash) and primarily effects 64bit systems.

To resolve this error you will need to install Microsoft .Net framework 3.5.

You can often trigger the installation of the .NET framework by simply opening the Sage 50 report designer and following the installation instructions that appear.

Sage 50 Pre-Installation Admin check:

Before you install Sage 50 Accounts you should check that your computer meets the recommended system requirements.

To successfully install Sage 50 Accounts you must log onto your computer as an administrator. If you don't have administrator access, your software may not install correctly.

To check if the current user is a local administrator - Windows 7 and Vista

  1. Open the Start menu > click the user account picture. 

    If the computer is not part of a domain, the user status appears below the user name.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall or (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall)- this is the location where the add remove programs gets populated. If you remove the entry from the registry it would take out the entry. You can delete the key from here as described below and also physically locate and delete the files/folders.
In Registry Editor, locate the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall or HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
