“The file is corrupt and cannot be opened” when opening Outlook Attachments with Office 2013

I left Outlook 2010 installed when I upgraded to Office 2013 because we’re still using Exchange 2003 which is not supported by Outlook 2013.

After upgrading, I couldn’t open any attachments directly from Outlook, even after downloading them first.

Excel, Word and PowerPoint would give me an error “The file is corrupt and cannot be opened”.

Outlook won't open: This functionality requires Internet Explorer 4.0 or above

I'm starting to see a number of users who are having problems opening versions of Outlook that are years newer than Internet Explorer 4.

I can´t open Outlook 2010, I have Windows 7 and Internet Explorer 9. When I try to open Outlook, an error dialog says "this functionality requires Internet Explorer 4.0 or above. You can download it from Microsoft website".

When you receive this error message, it indicates the Internet Explorer version keys are corrupt.

Open the registry editor and change the values for the Internet Explorer reg key. They should be at or close to the following values if you have Windows 8 (and higher than 5).

Installing IIS on Windows XP

How to install Internet Information Services 5.1

Introduction

This help page shows you how to install Microsoft's Internet Information Services (IIS) 5.1 web server for Windows XP Professional.

Can it be installed on Windows XP Home Edition?

No.

Why do I need to do this?

Contract Eagle is a browser-based software product which requires Microsoft's web server platform to run. All other systems supported by Contract Eagle (eg. Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, Windows 7, WIndows Server 2008) allow IIS to be installed automatically. Windows XP Professional does not support this facility and therefore you need to follow these manual steps to complete the installation.
